 Levitation or Transvection 

Please remember Levitations  or Transvections are not a new phenomena, it has been happening to people from all walks of life throughout the centuries. It is well documented in many religious books, one notable one is the Christian bible. Jesus levitated by walking on the water, this is just one I have picked out because many people know the stories. There are many monks who have been documented in recent times that have also levitated.

One monk being canonised for his sanctity and for the blessed gift he had, was St Joseph of Copertino. YET the Christian church still killed many others outside the Christian church who had similar gifts. Joseph was documented to have levitated in front of Pope Urban V111, he saw Joseph stay in the air for many minutes. He was seen to float by the Duke of Brunswick, and the High Admiral of Castile. His levitation or as the Christian church called it transvection, was not in a controlled manner and he would take off at the  most inopportune moments. One of the most memorable incidents was when he was in a garden with a fellow priest. The priest turned to him and he said, “Brother Joseph what a beautiful heaven God hath made”.  Joseph took off gently into the air and landed on an olive branch in a near by tree. Even though the branch was thin it did not bend under his weight. He had to be brought back to the ground by other monks who fetched a set of ladders. Joseph was said to be in a dream like state when levitating he must have been put into a trance state by Spirit. He said his head felt sort of funny and was of “giddiness”. The Christian church recognized that the phenomena of levitation does happen and have from that day name it “transvection”. Brother Joseph died in 1663

Others in the Christian church are documented to have levitated are St Ignatious Loyola. He had the added gift of being lit up like a luminous object at different times and when he levitated. As is documented so did Donald Dunglas Home but he was pilloried by the Christian church.

In the Christian church it is said that the levitation of others occurs when the levitators are in deep religious prayer. The person goes into what we now call a trance like state. It should be pointed out that the people who levitated have never taken anyone else up with them when they are grabbed hold of to be brought down. In the early 1900 seances in the Sefton Park area of Liverpool, Gladys Owens Father in their Victorian house with large very high ceilings used to levitate along with his chair, and after permission given by the Spirit World four people from the Circle individually held onto a leg of the chair each and tried to pull him down lifting their legs up so the weight of four people was against the force of the upward momentum, Gladys father stayed there touching the 11 foot high ceiling with his head until the group sat down, then the Spirit World gently lowered him to his original position.

Gladys Owen was the president of Liverpool Spiritualist church for many years. A lady who was giving out hymn books in the Liverpool Spiritualist Church when she was two. She fell in love with a man just before the first world war, he was killed during that war and she never married because she knew he was not truly dead but lived on in the other dimension and had proof of that many, many times over the years in her parent's great many Physical Seances in her family home in Sefton Park, which later became her own house. A truly dedicated women and a stickler for punctuality when anyone was attending the meetings with the Spirit World, whether it was in the services or seances. This is how it should be for everyone, it is called respect.

There have been a number of incidences of levitation among both Saints, in the Roman Catholic Church, noteworthy Christians and over 200 Catholic Saints.  Some of these include:

St. Edmund, then Archbishop of Canterbury circa 1242.

St. Teresa of Avila in Madrid during 1680.

Sister Mary an Arabian Carmelite nun in Bethlehem circa 1700 might be the same person as below.

Also one of the most impressive was named Sister Mary of Agreda, who claimed to have been whisked from her native Spain to Mexico over 500 times between 1620 and 1631.

Perhaps the most extraordinary levitations of all was St. Joseph of Copertino born 1603 in Apulia Italy.  After 22 years of ascetic behaviour coupled with religious torture to achieve a state of religious ecstasy, he finally managed to levitate.  At one point a prayer-induced state of ecstasy resulted in him being transported through the air at Mass and left across the altar.  Pope Urbain VIII was quite taken aback when St. Joseph of Cupertino floated a few feet above the ground in front of him.  It is also reported that he managed to levitate more than a hundred times until his death in 1663 when he was canonized because of his unique ability, which was seen by the Church to have been the work of God.

[Ignatius Loyola loved to spend many hours studying books about the various dead saints. In fact, he loved to try to find ways to be able to communicate with these dead saints- which of course is what we now call Spiritualism! During the years of 1525-1528 he put into writing his new spiritual outlook on life, and called these writings The Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola].

St Philip of Neri levitated during prayers as did Brother Joseph. Another religious person in the Christian church who had this gift from Spirit was St Robert of Palentin, but he was a low flyer in their ranks only achieving the height of little over a foot to 18 inches.

 Jack Webber is in trance while tied to the twin armed chair by arms and legs, whilst the table is being levitated by the Spirit World. Notice the ectoplasm, which is generally visible when being used by the Spirit World as support of the object being levitated, is invisible to the photographic film.

While linking with the Spirit World, a table of 45 lb is levitated by the manipulation of gravity and etheric force. Note the absence of physically constructed ectoplasmic rods. [see  chapter X111 of the Mediumship of Arnold Clare by Harry Edwards.].

Here is an unknown Medium producing ectoplasm while being held and it is moving the black cloth away from the Medium under her right arm. The ectoplasm seems to be coming from the right breast area also the lower orifices, and a head is being formed on the lap of the Medium. The black cloth or black clothing is used by the Physical Medium so the sitters can see the formation of ectoplasm more clearly in a low lit or red lit room.

The Physical Medium Francesco Carancini during her seance the table is levitating over the very heavily bound Medium.

The levitation of the table. The main thing to notice here is the fact that all the sitters in the seance have their hands on top of the table, and their knees are away from the table. This table is a wooden cane type similar to the one used by Gordon Higginson in his home seances at his family then his sisters home. Gordon's table at the end of the seance use to go from the centre of the Circle into the corner on its own without any person touching it.
